Adventurous Beginners: Knickers & Bralette

Wednesday 16th April - Wednesday 21st May,

If you know how to use a sewing machine and love a challenge, join us to tackle a sewer’s dream project – an lingerie set. In this course, we’ll begin by making a pair of knickers, with the option to choose from a brief or thong pattern. We’ll then sew a non-wired bralette pattern to make a comfy and chic set that you’ll love to wear! It’s the perfect class for anyone who wants to take their sewing skills to the next level while making useful and aesthetic garments.

The course will be led by our guest teacher Sam, who is currently studying for a PHD in the science of bra making so you are in safe hands.

  • In this workshop series you will:

    • Get to grips with basic underwear-making techniques

    • Learn the basics of working with stretch fabrics and underwear elastics

    • Tweak the pattern to help you fit it to your unique body shape

    • Learn how to add lace trims, cute bows, and custom details

  • You must be able to use a sewing machine to book on to this course.

No experience sewing underwear? No problem! Whether you're a confident beginner or an experienced sewist, you'll leave feeling empowered, inspired, and maybe a little obsessed with making your own lingerie.

If you want to take on this challenge but can’t use a sewing machine yet, book on to our Casual Basics or Make a Skirt courses before you start.

  • We will be using the Paper Theory Stevie Knickers Pattern& Madalynnes thong and bralette pattern.

These are all free to download. We will have them ready for you on the first day and we will send you the download links so you can use them again.

  • You need some specialist materials and notions for underwear making. We have a good selection of these in the studio you can choose from included in the course price.

We do suggest trialing in our fabrics first to get the perfect fit. Then you can source your own fabrics and notions to make your perfect set once you have all the underwear sewing know how!

But, you are very welcome to bring your own if you want to, details of what you need are below.
